Spot a scam phone call (vishing)
Scammers phone pretending to be your bank, the ATO or a tech company. The pressure to act now is the tell.
- Be wary of any caller demanding immediate payment, remote access, or your passwords and codes.
- Remember no legitimate bank or agency will ask you to read out a one-time code or move money to a ’safe account’.
- Don’t trust the number on your screen — caller ID is easily spoofed to show a real-looking name.
- Hang up. Then call the organisation back on a number from their official website or the back of your card.
- If you gave away details, contact your bank straight away and change any shared passwords.
