Spot a scam phone call (vishing)

Scammers phone pretending to be your bank, the ATO or a tech company. The pressure to act now is the tell.

  1. Be wary of any caller demanding immediate payment, remote access, or your passwords and codes.
  2. Remember no legitimate bank or agency will ask you to read out a one-time code or move money to a ’safe account’.
  3. Don’t trust the number on your screen — caller ID is easily spoofed to show a real-looking name.
  4. Hang up. Then call the organisation back on a number from their official website or the back of your card.
  5. If you gave away details, contact your bank straight away and change any shared passwords.

Still stuck after those?

You’ve done the right thing by trying. Send whedo.it a quick note — what you tried, what you saw — and a senior pair of eyes will be on it the same business day.
