Spot a malicious QR code (quishing)

A QR code is just a hidden link. Scammers stick fake ones on parking meters, posters and into emails.

  1. Pause before scanning codes on flyers, parking machines or unsolicited emails — check for a sticker placed over the original.
  2. After scanning, read the full web address your phone previews before you open it.
  3. Never enter passwords or card details on a site you reached only by scanning a code.
  4. Be suspicious of any QR code that asks you to log in or pay urgently.
  5. When paying for parking or bills, use the official app or a typed-in website instead of the printed code.

Still stuck after those?

You’ve done the right thing by trying. Send whedo.it a quick note — what you tried, what you saw — and a senior pair of eyes will be on it the same business day.
