A “help desk” contacts you on Teams? Check before you let them in

A common attack: your inbox floods with junk sign-ups, then someone “from IT” offers to fix it — and asks for remote access.

  1. Teams labels people outside your organisation as External and asks you to Accept or Block. Take that warning seriously.
  2. Never share a Quick Assist code or allow screen control unless you contacted the helper first.
  3. Pretexts include “Microsoft Security Update” and “Account Verification”. Real IT support doesn’t cold-message you from outside your organisation.
  4. Verify using a number or channel you already know — not one the caller gives you.
  5. If anything feels off during a session, disconnect straight away and report it.
  6. Unsure? Call whedo.it on +61 421 346 887 before you click anything.
