Check Copilot is protecting your work data (the green shield)

Microsoft 365 Copilot Chat protects your work data when you’re signed in with your work account. A green shield tells you it’s on.

1. Open Microsoft 365 Copilot Chat and make sure you’re signed in with your work email address.
2. Look for the green shield at the top of the window, next to the New Chat button.
3. Green shield showing: enterprise data protection is on. Your prompts and responses aren’t used to train Microsoft’s foundation models, and they’re covered by the same contractual commitments as your work email and files.
4. No green shield: you’re probably signed in with a personal account. Sign out and sign back in with your work account.
5. Use this version for work tasks — not a personal Copilot, ChatGPT or Gemini account.
6. Your normal permissions still apply: Copilot only shows you content you already have access to.
