Turn off auto-join to open Wi-Fi
Phones love to hop onto any open network, including ones set up to snoop. Turning off auto-join puts you back in control.
- Open Settings → Wi-Fi.
- Turn off auto-join for public and open networks, or ’ask to join networks’.
- Forget open networks you no longer use so the phone won’t silently reconnect.
- Avoid banking or logging in over open Wi-Fi; use mobile data or a trusted VPN instead.
- Be suspicious of a ’free Wi-Fi’ network with a name that’s nearly, but not quite, the venue’s.
