Turn off auto-join to open Wi-Fi

Phones love to hop onto any open network, including ones set up to snoop. Turning off auto-join puts you back in control.

  1. Open Settings → Wi-Fi.
  2. Turn off auto-join for public and open networks, or ’ask to join networks’.
  3. Forget open networks you no longer use so the phone won’t silently reconnect.
  4. Avoid banking or logging in over open Wi-Fi; use mobile data or a trusted VPN instead.
  5. Be suspicious of a ’free Wi-Fi’ network with a name that’s nearly, but not quite, the venue’s.

Still stuck after those?

You’ve done the right thing by trying. Send whedo.it a quick note — what you tried, what you saw — and a senior pair of eyes will be on it the same business day.
