Keep iOS and Android up to date
Most phone updates patch security holes that attackers already know about. Putting them off leaves a known door unlocked.
- Open Settings and check for a system update — on iPhone under General, on Android under System.
- Install any pending update; these contain the security patches that matter most.
- Turn on automatic updates so you don’t have to remember.
- Update your apps too, via the App Store or Google Play.
- Replace a phone that no longer receives updates — it stops getting security fixes.
