Steps if your phone is lost or stolen
Act fast and in order. The first thing to protect isn’t the handset, it’s the accounts and money behind it.
- Use Find My (iPhone) or Find My Device (Android) to locate, lock and display a contact message.
- If it’s clearly gone, choose remotely erase so your data can’t be reached.
- Call your carrier to suspend the SIM and block the handset’s IMEI.
- Change passwords for email and banking, and revoke the phone’s saved logins.
- Report a theft to police and note the reference for insurance.
- Watch for SIM-swap follow-ups — scammers may target your number next.
