Use virtual or disposable card numbers

A virtual card number lets you pay online without exposing your real one. If a merchant is breached, you bin the number, not the card.

  1. Check whether your bank or wallet offers virtual or single-use card numbers in its app.
  2. Generate a dedicated number for free trials and unfamiliar online stores.
  3. Set a low limit or a single-use rule so a leaked number can’t be drained.
  4. Delete or freeze a virtual number the moment you’re done with that merchant.
  5. Keep your real card number for trusted, recurring billers only.

Still stuck after those?

You’ve done the right thing by trying. Send whedo.it a quick note — what you tried, what you saw — and a senior pair of eyes will be on it the same business day.
