Check whether a caller really is your bank
Scammers spoof bank numbers and know just enough about you to sound legitimate. The fix is simple and never fails.
- Do not act on anything the caller says while still on the call — urgency is the pressure they rely on.
- Tell them you’ll call back, then hang up completely.
- Wait a minute or use a different phone — a held-open line can keep the scammer connected.
- Dial the number on the back of your card or your bank’s official app, never a number the caller gave you.
- Ask the genuine bank staff to confirm whether anyone actually contacted you.
