How to report a scam in Australia
Reporting helps stop the scam spreading and can support recovery. Use the right channel for what happened.
- Report scams (including ones you spotted but didn’t fall for) to Scamwatch at scamwatch.gov.au.
- Report cybercrime such as fraud, hacking or identity theft to ReportCyber at cyber.gov.au/report.
- If money or banking details are involved, contact your bank first — speed matters most there.
- For identity theft or compromised personal information, call IDCARE on 1800 595 160 for a response plan.
- Keep evidence: screenshots, sender numbers and addresses, and any reference numbers.
- Warn colleagues, family or your team so they recognise the same scam.
