How to report a scam in Australia

Reporting helps stop the scam spreading and can support recovery. Use the right channel for what happened.

  1. Report scams (including ones you spotted but didn’t fall for) to Scamwatch at scamwatch.gov.au.
  2. Report cybercrime such as fraud, hacking or identity theft to ReportCyber at cyber.gov.au/report.
  3. If money or banking details are involved, contact your bank first — speed matters most there.
  4. For identity theft or compromised personal information, call IDCARE on 1800 595 160 for a response plan.
  5. Keep evidence: screenshots, sender numbers and addresses, and any reference numbers.
  6. Warn colleagues, family or your team so they recognise the same scam.

Still stuck after those?

You’ve done the right thing by trying. Send whedo.it a quick note — what you tried, what you saw — and a senior pair of eyes will be on it the same business day.
