Freeze or cancel a lost or stolen card
Most banking apps let you lock a card yourself in seconds, before anyone in a call centre even picks up.
- Open your banking app’s official cards section and use the lock or freeze option first — it’s instant and reversible.
- Check recent transactions for anything you don’t recognise while you’re there.
- If the card is gone for good, choose cancel and order a replacement rather than just locking it.
- Update the new card number anywhere it’s saved — subscriptions, wallets and recurring bills.
- Phone the bank on your card number, or its app, if you can’t access the self-service option.
