Turn the webcam off or use a privacy shutter
For peace of mind, you can block the camera when it’s not in use. Both a physical and a software option exist.
- Slide the physical privacy shutter across the lens if your webcam or laptop has one.
- To block it in software, open Settings → Privacy & security → Camera.
- Turn off camera access entirely, or switch it off for specific apps you don’t trust.
- Remember to turn camera access back on before a meeting, or apps will show a black screen.
- A small stick-on shutter is a cheap option for any laptop that lacks one built in.
