Improve your lighting and framing on calls

Good lighting and framing make you look sharp on video with no new gear. A few small moves do most of the work.

  1. Face a window or lamp so the light is in front of you, not behind, or you’ll appear as a silhouette.
  2. Raise the camera to eye level using a stand or a few books, so it isn’t looking up your nose.
  3. Frame yourself with your eyes about a third down from the top, with a little headroom.
  4. Sit an arm’s length from the camera so you’re not looming or tiny.
  5. Tidy or blur the background, and avoid a bright window directly behind you.

Still stuck after those?

You’ve done the right thing by trying. Send whedo.it a quick note — what you tried, what you saw — and a senior pair of eyes will be on it the same business day.
