Sync a SharePoint library to File Explorer

Syncing puts a SharePoint or Teams document library into File Explorer so you can work in it like a normal folder. Add Shortcut to OneDrive is the tidier option.

  1. Open the SharePoint site or Teams channel’s Documents library in your browser.
  2. Click Sync, or better, ’Add shortcut to OneDrive’ to make it follow you across devices.
  3. Approve any prompt to open the OneDrive client.
  4. The library appears in File Explorer under your organisation’s name in the left pane.
  5. Files show online-only by default to save space; open one to download it on demand.
  6. To stop syncing, right-click the folder → OneDrive settings, or remove the shortcut from OneDrive.
