See and restore a previous version of a file

OneDrive and SharePoint keep older versions automatically. If a file is wrong or overwritten, you can roll it back without losing the current copy.

  1. Find the file in OneDrive or SharePoint on the web, or right-click it in File Explorer.
  2. Choose Version history.
  3. Browse the list of dated versions and open one to check it’s the one you want.
  4. Choose Restore to make it the current version, or download the old version to keep both.
  5. Restoring doesn’t delete newer versions — they stay in the history.
  6. If version history is missing, the file may be outside OneDrive/SharePoint, where it isn’t kept.

Still stuck after those?
