See and restore a previous version of a file
OneDrive and SharePoint keep older versions automatically. If a file is wrong or overwritten, you can roll it back without losing the current copy.
- Find the file in OneDrive or SharePoint on the web, or right-click it in File Explorer.
- Choose Version history.
- Browse the list of dated versions and open one to check it’s the one you want.
- Choose Restore to make it the current version, or download the old version to keep both.
- Restoring doesn’t delete newer versions — they stay in the history.
- If version history is missing, the file may be outside OneDrive/SharePoint, where it isn’t kept.
