Move large files or an old shared drive into SharePoint
Old file servers and big folders belong in SharePoint for backup, sharing and remote access. Plan the move so links and permissions survive.
- Decide the destination — the right SharePoint site and document library for that team or project.
- Tidy first: remove duplicates and very old junk so you’re not migrating clutter.
- For modest amounts, sync the library to File Explorer and copy files in; let each batch finish syncing.
- For large or complex moves, ask whedo.it — bulk migration tools preserve dates and permissions better than drag-and-drop.
- Check permissions on the new location so the right people have access and no more.
- Once verified, point staff at the new location and retire the old drive read-only before deleting.
Still stuck after those?
