Check who currently has access to a file or folder
Before sharing or after a project, it’s worth seeing exactly who can open something. Manage access shows the full picture.
- Right-click the file or folder in OneDrive, SharePoint or File Explorer and choose Manage access.
- Review the Links section for sharing links and how broad each one is.
- Review the Direct access list for named people and their permission level.
- Look for any ’Anyone with the link’ entries that make it more open than you expected.
- Remove or change anything that’s too broad, or stop a link entirely.
- Remember folder permissions flow down to the files inside, so check at the folder level too.
