Check who currently has access to a file or folder

Before sharing or after a project, it’s worth seeing exactly who can open something. Manage access shows the full picture.

  1. Right-click the file or folder in OneDrive, SharePoint or File Explorer and choose Manage access.
  2. Review the Links section for sharing links and how broad each one is.
  3. Review the Direct access list for named people and their permission level.
  4. Look for any ’Anyone with the link’ entries that make it more open than you expected.
  5. Remove or change anything that’s too broad, or stop a link entirely.
  6. Remember folder permissions flow down to the files inside, so check at the folder level too.

Still stuck after those?
