Turn on two-factor authentication for Facebook and Instagram
Social accounts get hijacked constantly, often to scam your contacts. Two-factor is the main thing standing between a leaked password and a stranger posting as you.
- In the Facebook or Instagram app, open Settings → Accounts Centre (the shared settings hub for both).
- Tap Password and security → Two-factor authentication → choose the account.
- Select Authentication app as your method where possible, rather than SMS.
- Follow the prompts to link an authenticator app, or fall back to text message if you have no app.
- Save the recovery codes it offers and store them offline.
- Repeat for each account, since Facebook and Instagram are protected separately even when linked.
