Turn on two-factor authentication for Facebook and Instagram

Social accounts get hijacked constantly, often to scam your contacts. Two-factor is the main thing standing between a leaked password and a stranger posting as you.

  1. In the Facebook or Instagram app, open Settings → Accounts Centre (the shared settings hub for both).
  2. Tap Password and security → Two-factor authentication → choose the account.
  3. Select Authentication app as your method where possible, rather than SMS.
  4. Follow the prompts to link an authenticator app, or fall back to text message if you have no app.
  5. Save the recovery codes it offers and store them offline.
  6. Repeat for each account, since Facebook and Instagram are protected separately even when linked.

Still stuck after those?
