Use one authenticator app for all your accounts
You do not need a separate app per account. A single authenticator app can hold the second factor for your work email, banking, social media, and more.
- Pick one reputable app — Microsoft Authenticator or Google Authenticator — and use it everywhere.
- For each account, open its security settings and choose Authenticator app as the method.
- In the app, tap Add account and scan the QR code that each service shows.
- Let the app list all your accounts together; each shows its own rotating six-digit code.
- Turn on the app’s cloud backup so the whole set can be restored to a new phone.
- Resist installing several different authenticator apps, which just spreads your codes around and makes recovery harder.
