Understand what a remote wipe does

If a phone is lost or you leave, IT can remotely remove work data. On a personal phone, this is more limited than people fear.

  1. Know there are two kinds: a selective wipe (work data only) and a full wipe (the whole device).
  2. On an enrolled personal phone, IT normally does a selective wipe, removing work apps and data only.
  3. Your personal photos, messages, and apps are left alone in a selective wipe.
  4. A full wipe is used mainly on company-owned devices, or a personal one with your agreement.
  5. If your phone is lost or stolen, report it to IT quickly so they can wipe the work side before anyone gets in.
