Understand what a remote wipe does
If a phone is lost or you leave, IT can remotely remove work data. On a personal phone, this is more limited than people fear.
- Know there are two kinds: a selective wipe (work data only) and a full wipe (the whole device).
- On an enrolled personal phone, IT normally does a selective wipe, removing work apps and data only.
- Your personal photos, messages, and apps are left alone in a selective wipe.
- A full wipe is used mainly on company-owned devices, or a personal one with your agreement.
- If your phone is lost or stolen, report it to IT quickly so they can wipe the work side before anyone gets in.
