Clear a paper jam safely

Most jams clear in a minute if you pull the right way and don’t force anything. Tearing paper makes it worse.

  1. Cancel the job and switch the printer off at the power button.
  2. Open the covers and trays the printer’s screen points to, and locate the stuck sheet.
  3. Pull the paper slowly in the direction it normally travels, using both hands and even pressure.
  4. Check no torn scraps remain, especially near the rollers, as small pieces cause repeat jams.
  5. Close all covers, switch the printer back on, and let it reset before reprinting.

Still stuck after those?

You’ve done the right thing by trying. Send whedo.it a quick note — what you tried, what you saw — and a senior pair of eyes will be on it the same business day.
