Add a fingerprint or face lock to your authenticator app
If someone picks up your unlocked phone, your authenticator is only as safe as the phone itself. A biometric lock on the app adds a second barrier in seconds.
- Open Microsoft Authenticator → tap the menu → Settings.
- Turn on App Lock, which requires your fingerprint, face, or phone PIN to open the app.
- Confirm your phone already has a screen lock set, as the app lock relies on it.
- Test it by closing and reopening the app to check it prompts you.
- Keep your phone’s own screen lock short, so it locks quickly when set down.
- In Google Authenticator, look for a comparable Privacy Screen or lock option in its settings.
