Add a fingerprint or face lock to your authenticator app

If someone picks up your unlocked phone, your authenticator is only as safe as the phone itself. A biometric lock on the app adds a second barrier in seconds.

  1. Open Microsoft Authenticator → tap the menu → Settings.
  2. Turn on App Lock, which requires your fingerprint, face, or phone PIN to open the app.
  3. Confirm your phone already has a screen lock set, as the app lock relies on it.
  4. Test it by closing and reopening the app to check it prompts you.
  5. Keep your phone’s own screen lock short, so it locks quickly when set down.
  6. In Google Authenticator, look for a comparable Privacy Screen or lock option in its settings.
