Send a large file as a link instead of an attachment

Attachments over about 20 MB usually bounce or jam the Outbox. A OneDrive link sends instantly and keeps everyone on the latest version.

  1. Save the file to OneDrive or SharePoint first.
  2. In your email, choose Attach File and pick the file from your OneDrive cloud location rather than your PC.
  3. When prompted, choose to share a link — Outlook attaches a link, not the whole file.
  4. Set the link permission to view or edit, and whether it’s for people in whedo.it only.
  5. Send as normal — recipients click the link and the file opens in their browser.
  6. If you’ve already attached a local copy, remove it and use ’Share link’ to swap it out.

Still stuck after those?

You’ve done the right thing by trying. Send whedo.it a quick note — what you tried, what you saw — and a senior pair of eyes will be on it the same business day.
