Search my mailbox and actually find the email

The search box does more than match words. A few filters turn a vague hunt into a precise result.

  1. Click the search box at the top and check the scope dropdown is set to Current Mailbox or All, not just one folder.
  2. Type keywords, then use the search tools or filters for From, Subject, has attachments or a date range.
  3. Use simple operators like from:name, subject:word or hasattachment:yes to narrow fast.
  4. Put exact phrases in quotes to match them word for word.
  5. If results look incomplete, clear filters and search again from the top folder.
  6. For very old mail, also check Archive and Deleted Items, which search separately.

Still stuck after those?
