Find a file I saved but can’t remember the name
Windows can search inside file contents, not just file names — if you tell it to.
- Press Win to open Search.
- Type a phrase from inside the document — not the file name.
- Wait a second — Windows will search file contents in your indexed folders (Documents, Desktop, OneDrive).
- If it’s not finding it, open File Explorer, navigate to the likely folder, click in the Search box (top-right), and type your phrase. Use quotes for exact phrases.
- Still missing? Try OneDrive on the web at onedrive.live.com — it searches inside Office files too.
Still stuck after those?
